The following organizations were selected for environmental grant awards, from a pool of 20 applicants:
Colchester Giving Garden was awarded $340 to purchase supplies to enhance nutrients at an organic garden that provides produce to food banks and soup kitchens.
East Lyme Giving Garden was awarded $2000 to purchase the electrical components for its well pump and irrigation system; its product is donated to local food banks.
Great Hollow Nature Preserve was awarded $1000 to create an outdoor garden/classroom including 10 raised beds, in order to produce food for a "pay what you can" farm stand and to offer workshops and classes to children and adults.
Niantic River Watershed Committee was awarded $500 to partially cover laboratory costs for a water quality monitoring pilot project of 33 outfalls to the Niantic River, a project done in partnership with multiple towns and the EPA.
Norwalk Land Trust was awarded $1684 for materials to plant a verdant meadow adjacent to an upland woodland for birds and insects from old horse paddocks.
